The first Islamic bank in Bangladesh and the largest in the country — Bangladesh Bank records that 'The journey of Islamic banking in Bangladesh began in 1983 with establishment of Islami Bank Bangladesh PLC' and puts its network at 400 branches in May 2026, the largest of any Bangladeshi Islamic bank. Its Khidmah credit card range runs to five tiers: Mastercard World, VISA Signature, Priority Platinum, Platinum and Gold (the last sub-divided into Gold 1 and Gold 2). ALL are built on a pure UJRAH model — the bank charges NO percentage profit rate at all, only a flat 'Monthly Maintenance Fee' whenever an outstanding balance over Tk. 100 remains. That wording is also what proves the cards revolve rather than settle in full. Cards are issued on Visa, Mastercard and UnionPay International, dual-currency. The Shariah Supervisory Committee has 5 members and operates under Clause 123 of the bank's Memorandum and Articles of Association, in accordance with the Islamic Banking Guidelines issued by Bangladesh Bank.
