Who EXIM Bank are

A fully Islamic bank — every product it offers is Shariah-compliant.

OWNERSHIP CHANGE — VERIFIED: this bank has been MERGED into Sammilito Islami Bank PLC, a new state-owned institution scheduled by Bangladesh Bank with effect from 1 December 2025 under the Bank Resolution Ordinance 2025. Sammilito's own site states 'Merged Banks: FSIB, EXIM, SIBL, Union, GIB' and preserves the five legacy product ranges in its Products menu. The legacy brand and website were still live and serving branded products on 2026-08-17, but the issuing institution is now Sammilito Islami Bank PLC (sammilitobankbd.com). A converted bank — Bangladesh Bank records that EXIM Bank 'started operations as full-fledged Islamic bank in 2004'; 155 branches in May 2026. EXIM claims the first Islamic card in the country: 'Exim Bank has started commercial operation of fully Shariah based Islamic Investment Card (Local, International & Dual Currency) under the principle of Bai-Murabaha. This is the first Islamic electronic product for any Islamic Bank in Bangladesh.' It is one of only two Bangladeshi issuers in this dataset that NAMES its card's Shariah contract. Three tiers — VISA Gold, VISA Platinum, VISA Signature — each sold in a local (BDT) and a dual-currency (USD) version, with every fee published in both currencies. Uniquely in this dataset it charges a conventional-style flat profit rate of 25% per annum, and requires heavy security documentation for a consumer card (Demand Promissory Note, Letter of Guarantee, Letter of Continuity, plus a Shariah Agreement). Its card Schedule of Charges is a small, clean, text-layer PDF — the best card fee disclosure of any Bangladeshi bank found here. It also markets Travel Quota (TQ), RFCD and Retention Quota (RQ) international card variants tied to Bangladesh's foreign-exchange quota regime.
