Who Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank are

A fully Islamic bank — every product it offers is Shariah-compliant.

Full-fledged Islamic bank, not an Islamic window. ADIB markets its credit cards exclusively as 'Covered Cards' and never as credit cards. The structure is a commodity Murabaha over a 10-year (120-month) tenor with the cover held in a Short Term Investment account, plus a discretionary Bonus from shareholders' funds that performs the ibra' (profit-waiver) function - materially different from the Ujrah/fixed-monthly-fee model used by most UAE Islamic issuers. Standard monthly profit rate is 3.75% (APR 45.63% as ADIB computes it) on all covered cards issued from 15 February 2024. Late payment is handled as an AED 100 'Donation Commitment to Charity', with VAT not applicable and part of it retained by the bank towards actual collection expenses. Certified against AAOIFI Shari'ah Standard No. (61) Payment Cards. Also operates in Egypt, Iraq and the UK. The ADIB Smiles range is the rebranded successor to the withdrawn ADIB Etisalat (e&) co-brand.
