What makes this card Islamic

CIMB Islamic builds this card on a Tawarruq contract. The bank sells you a commodity on credit at a marked-up price, you sell that commodity to somebody else for cash, and the cash becomes your spending limit.

Commodity Murabahah (Tawarruq). The Bank purchases Commodity to the value of the approved credit limit plus 50% of that limit (the Bank's Purchase Price), sells the Commodity to the applicant at the Bank's Sale Price, then as the applicant's agent sells the Commodity to a third party on spot at a price equal to the Bank's Purchase Price. MIGRATION — DATED AND CONFIRMED: this card ran on UJRAH until 31 December 2025 and converted to TAWARRUQ effective 1 JANUARY 2026. CIMB's Important Notice dated 21 November 2025 states the conversion; an Update to that notice is dated 31 December 2025; CIMB's own FAQ states the transition 'is being closely guided and monitored by Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM)' and confirms it covers ALL four CIMB Islamic Credit Card-i products. No action was required of cardholders — continued use is deemed agreement, including appointment of the Bank as agent for the commodity trading arrangement. No evidence of Bai' al-Inah was found for CIMB Islamic.

Approved by CIMB Islamic Bank Berhad Shariah Committee, under the supervision of Bank Negara Malaysia.

What it costs

Every figure below comes from CIMB Islamic’s own published documents. Where the bank does not publish a number we say so rather than estimate it.

Profit rate
15% a yearCEILING PROFIT RATE = 18% p.a. over a 5-year tenure. The PDS states: Total Profit = Bank's Purchase Price x Ceiling Profit Rate (18%) x Tenure (5 years), where Bank's Purchase Price = Approved Credit Limit + Temporary Credit Limit Increase (50% of Approved Credit Limit). EFFECTIVE PROFIT RATE on retail transactions is tiered: 15% p.a. for cardholders with prompt payments for 12 consecutive months; 17% p.a. for cardholders with prompt payment for 10 months or more in the last 12 months; 18% p.a. for cardholders who do not fall under the above categories. Cash advances are 18% p.a. calculated on a daily rest basis from the date the cash is disbursed. Ibra' (rebate) is 'the difference between Total Profit calculated at Ceiling Profit Rate and total sum of profit charge over the Tenure calculated at Effective Profit Rate'. The value recorded here is the BEST-CASE effective rate (15%); the worst case is 18%. CIMB does not publish a monthly profit rate.source

Other conditions
Bank states an ANNUAL income figure, not a monthly one: 'Minimum Annual Income: RM24,000 per annum' — exactly Bank Negara Malaysia's national floor for credit card eligibility. The PDS adds: 'If you are at least 21 years old but are unable to prove your annual income, you will need to place a deposit in Fixed Deposit-i (FD-i) with CIMB Islamic Bank of an amount equal to the credit limit granted to you.' No maximum age is published.

What we could not verify

CIMB Islamic does not publish minimum income, maximum age, monthly profit rate, shariah certificate, takaful cover, over-limit fee, reward caps, documents required for this card, so we have left those blank rather than guess. If you need one of them, ask the bank directly and hold them to the answer in writing.
