What makes this card Islamic

Prime Bank (Hasanah) builds this card on a Ujrah contract. The bank charges you a fixed fee for the service of giving you a card, rather than a charge that grows with the money you owe.

Ujrah, named explicitly by the bank: 'Prime Bank's Shariah based interest (riba) free Islamic credit card solution Visa Hasanah Platinum Credit Card operating under the "Ujrah" concept.' TRUE REVOLVING CREDIT CARD — the bank publishes a grace period conditional on full settlement ('applicable for maximum 45 days if previous month's total outstanding is paid fully…') and insures '50% of last month's outstanding', which only makes sense if a balance persists month to month. A SEPARATE PRODUCT, NOT A REBADGE: the Credit Card Schedule of Charges PDF contains two distinct tables, page 1 headed 'Prime Bank Credit Card Schedule of Charges (Conventional)' and page 2 'Prime Bank Credit Card Schedule of Charges (Hasanah)', and the site keeps the ranges on separate URL trees under separate nav sections.

Approved by Prime Bank Shari'ah Supervisory Committee, under the supervision of Bangladesh Bank.

What it costs

Every figure below comes from Prime Bank (Hasanah)’s own published documents. Where the bank does not publish a number we say so rather than estimate it.

Annual fee
Tk 5,000'Annual Fee will be reversed/waived based on 15 transactions (ATM excluded).' Confirmed verbatim from the readable Hasanah footnote, and echoed on the product page as 'Annual fee waiver on 15 purchases'.source
Supplementary card
Tk 0'Free supplementary credit card (First 2)' per the product page. Fee for the third onwards not readable — the OCR'd table has no supplementary-card row.
Profit rate
Not publishedThe card charges no percentage profit rate; instead a flat 'Monthly Maintenance Fee' of BDT 3,500 (Platinum) applies — this is Prime Bank's Ujrah charge on the card. The conventional page of the same PDF states 'Effective interest rate may vary from 17.91% to 21.20%… & 16.43% to 19.57%' — THOSE ARE CONVENTIONAL-CARD FIGURES AND MUST NOT BE ATTRIBUTED TO THE HASANAH CARDS. What is also established: a profit-free window of a maximum of 45 days applies if the previous month's total outstanding is paid in full.
Cash withdrawal
'Cash Advance/Transfer Processing Fee' — Cash Advance row, BDT 1,000; this row is a single shared figure across both Platinum and Gold, not tier-split, per the rasterized table. 'Instant cash advance up to 50% of credit limit' is published on the product page.
Late payment
Tk 1,000'Late Payment Fee' — Platinum column, recovered by OCR (see annual_fee.note).
Over limit
Tk 1,500
Replacement card
Tk 1,000
Takaful cover
Triple Benefit Insurance. On death or permanent total disability the entire dues as at that date are waived and the cardholder or nominee receives an equal amount; on critical illness the cardholder receives 50% of last month's outstanding, capped at BDT 1,000,000; on accidental death the nominee receives BDT 1,000,000. Maximum coverage will not exceed BDT 4,000,000 in any case. NOTE: the Gold card's page brands this cover 'Takaful Triple Benefit Insurance'; the Platinum page calls it 'Triple Benefit Insurance' without the takaful label.

Before you apply

  • DQ-4 RESOLVED (2026-09-20): the Hasanah fee table was image-rendered with no text layer; four independent extractors (PyMuPDF, pdfplumber, pypdf, direct fitz) returned nothing but footnotes at the time. Re-fetched (via a headless-browser download, since a bare request hit a WAF challenge) and OCR'd this pass with tesseract 5.4.0, every figure cross-checked by direct visual read of the rasterized page.
  • Do not let a comparison site quote you the conventional 17.91%-21.20% effective interest rate for this card — that figure is printed on the CONVENTIONAL page of the same document.
  • The 45-day profit-free window applies only if the previous month's total outstanding was paid in full.
  • The Platinum page drops the word 'Takaful' from the insurance description that the Gold page uses — worth confirming the cover is takaful-based.
  • A 'Markup Fee' row exists on the OCR'd table with a superscript footnote reference, and a separate footnote states overseas non-USD transactions carry a 5% 'Markup Rate' — the table cell and the footnote did not OCR consistently with each other (read as 3% in the cell vs 5% in the footnote), so fees.fx_markup_pct is left null rather than asserting either figure. Worth a direct human read to settle.
  • 15% VAT applies, and excise duty is realised annually per the NBR prescribed slab.

What we could not verify

Prime Bank (Hasanah) does not publish monthly profit rate, annual profit rate, foreign currency markup, minimum income, minimum age, maximum age, documents required, reward detail, reward caps, shariah certificate for this card, so we have left those blank rather than guess. If you need one of them, ask the bank directly and hold them to the answer in writing.
