What makes this card Islamic

City Bank (City Islamic) builds this card on a Ujrah contract. The bank charges you a fixed fee for the service of giving you a card, rather than a charge that grows with the money you owe.

TRUE REVOLVING CREDIT CARD — the bank's own fee sheet publishes 'Minimum Due for Monthly Repayment | BDT 500 or 3% (whichever is higher)' with the footnote 'On closing balance'. The carrying cost is an ujrah-style MONTHLY MAINTENANCE FEE scaled in BDT 10,000 units of dues rather than a percentage rate: 'BDT 400 for the initial BDT 10,000 due and BDT 175 for the next each BDT 10,000 unit dues'. A SEPARATE PRODUCT, NOT A CONVENTIONAL REBADGE: City Islamic runs on its own host (islamic.citybankplc.com) with its own product tree and its own dedicated fee sheet ('City Amex Islamic Credit Cards'), the Islamic cards are distinct SKUs priced differently from the conventional Amex range, and the flat maintenance fee replaces the interest rate entirely. The bank also publishes a downloadable 'Prohibited Merchant List' for this card — a Shariah-screening artefact specific to the Islamic product. NOTE ON NAMING: the brand is 'City Islamic'. No 'City Manarah' branding was found on any page fetched.

Approved by City Bank Shariah Supervisory Committee, under the supervision of Bangladesh Bank.
