What makes this card Islamic

Saudi National Bank builds this card on a Tawarruq contract. The bank sells you a commodity on credit at a marked-up price, you sell that commodity to somebody else for cash, and the cash becomes your spending limit.

SNB's credit card T&C dedicate Article 10 to the Tawarruq mechanism, defined as 'a process of buying and selling a commodity whereby the bank sells the commodity it owns to the customer at a deferred price, then the customer sells it at another price to third parties.' The customer irrevocably authorises the bank to perform the Tawarruq on his behalf whenever less than the full statement balance is paid. The fee schedule shows a separate 'Monthly Tawarruq Fees 0.30%' component on top of the monthly rate.

Approved by SNB Sharia Board, under the supervision of Saudi Central Bank (SAMA).
