What makes this card Islamic

Al-Arafah Islami Bank builds this card on a Qard Hasan + Ujrah contract. The bank lends you the money and you pay back exactly what you borrowed, not a penny more.

REVOLVING QARD — the only card in either country to use this structure, and the bank names it explicitly: 'La-Riba Islamic Credit Card is completely Shariah compliant, Interest (Riba) free card. It is a revolving Quard facility based card only for purchasing Shariah allowed products and services.' The bank lends the limit as qard (an interest-free loan) and takes its return as a fixed monthly fee — a Tk. 570 'Monthly Maintenance Fee' plus a tier 'Service Charge' — rather than as any percentage of the balance. TRUE REVOLVING CREDIT CARD: the product page states 'He/she can pay full, minimum or partial payment', and the Schedule of Charges publishes a minimum payment of Tk. 500 or 5% of total due, whichever is higher. Note also the restriction the bank places on use: the card is 'only for purchasing Shariah allowed products and services'.

Approved by Al-Arafah Islami Bank Shariah Board, under the supervision of Bangladesh Bank.

What it costs

Every figure below comes from Al-Arafah Islami Bank’s own published documents. Where the bank does not publish a number we say so rather than estimate it.

Annual fee
Tk 1,000'1st year no annual fee. From 2nd year annual fee will be waived if you doing transaction 18 times on pos and e-com round the years.' The same 18-transaction test waives the fee on the 2nd and subsequent supplementary cards, counted per card.source
Supplementary card
Tk 0First supplementary card is absolutely free. Second and onward cost Tk. 1,000 at Silver tier, waived if that card itself records 18 or more transactions over the year.source
Profit rate
Not publishedNO PERCENTAGE RATE. Under the revolving-qard structure the return is taken as flat monthly fees: a Monthly Maintenance Fee of Tk. 570, plus a Monthly Service Charge which at Silver tier is FREE — so the total monthly carrying cost at Silver is Tk. 570. NO PROFIT-FREE OR GRACE PERIOD IS PUBLISHED anywhere on the product page or in the Schedule of Charges; given the flat-fee design there may be no grace concept at all, but the bank does not say so, so this is recorded as unverified rather than inferred.
Cash withdrawal
Cash withdrawal fee: Tk. 150 at an AIBL ATM, Tk. 170 at a non-AIBL ATM, Tk. 200 on the Mastercard/Visa network. Cash advance limit is 50% of the credit limit. Per-transaction caps: BDT 20,000 local, BDT 26,000 equivalent international; BDT 50,000 per day. For international withdrawals the acquiring bank may charge extra.
Late payment
Tk 500The Schedule of Charges lists no line called 'late payment fee'. The closest published item is a 'Collection and File Maintenance Fee' of Tk. 500. Recorded as published; the trigger condition is not stated.
Foreign currency spend
2% on top of the exchange rate
Replacement card
Tk 500

What you get back

Other benefits

  • No annual fee in the first year, and waived from year two on 18 POS/e-commerce transactions
  • First supplementary card absolutely free
  • Dynamic currency facility on all La-Riba cards
  • Instalment facility to convert usage into easy instalments
  • Free auto-debit of either the minimum or the total amount due from an AIBL account

Before you apply

  • NO GRACE PERIOD IS PUBLISHED. Unlike IBBL (45 days), EXIM (45-50) and SIBL (51), Al-Arafah states no profit-free window, and the Tk. 570 monthly maintenance fee appears to be unconditional rather than triggered by carrying a balance.
  • A pre-closure fee of Tk. 500 applies if the card is closed before its first anniversary — so the 'first year free' offer is not costless to exit.
  • Transfers to mobile wallets (bKash, Nagad) cost 1% of the amount.
  • 2% markup on international transactions.
  • The card is contractually restricted to 'purchasing Shariah allowed products and services'.
  • The Schedule of Charges in use is dated with effect from 13 November 2024; the bank's own credit-card Schedule of Charges page renders its three documents as IMAGES WITH NO LINKS, so a newer card-specific version may exist that could not be opened.
  • 15% VAT applies where applicable.
  • DOMAIN WARNING: the bank's live site is aibl.com.bd. The commonly-cited al-arafahbank.com resolves but times out, and al-arafahbank.com.bd is NXDOMAIN.
