What makes this card Islamic

ruya Community Islamic Bank builds this card on a Murabahah contract. The bank buys the thing you want, then sells it to you at a stated cost plus a stated profit, payable later.

Key Facts Statement: "This product is based on the concept of a commodity Murabaha sale, whereby the bank would sale certain a Shari'ah compliant assets to you for the a known cost and profit margin (markup)." The customer then sells the same assets to a third party (a tawarruq), and the sale proceeds are deposited into a **Special Deposit Account run on a Wakala investment structure**, which is the card's cover. Monthly Murabaha profit instalments are debited from that account over a **15-year (180-month) term**, and are contractually due 'whether you utilize your Card Cover or not'. The Special Deposit Account earns the customer a monthly distributed profit and ruya may at its sole discretion grant a **rebate (ibra')**; the KFS states the net position as: [Murabaha Monthly Instalment (Profit)] - [Special Deposit account profit earned + Rebate granted]. Approved by ruya's Internal Shari'ah Supervision Committee.

Approved by Internal Shari'ah Supervision Committee, under the supervision of Central Bank of the UAE.

What it costs

What you get back

  • 2% cashback on every purchase, online or in store
  • Government and utility transactions are excluded

The cap is the part that matters

AED 500 per billing cycle (stated in ruya's own structured product data on the credit card page).

Other benefits

  • Fully digital application and onboarding through the ruya app — no paperwork, no branch visit
  • Up to 55 days profit-free on retail transactions
  • Free supplementary cards
  • Complimentary takaful cover paid by the bank
  • 5 business day cooling-off period

Before you apply

  • The 2% is capped at AED 500 per billing cycle, so cashback stops earning after AED 25,000 of spend in a cycle.
  • Government and utilities spend earns nothing.
  • The annual fee from year 2 requires AED 30,000 of annual spend to avoid; otherwise AED 313.95.
  • The foreign-exchange markup is 3%, and it also applies to AED transactions performed OUTSIDE the UAE, not just to foreign-currency ones.
  • Cash withdrawal is limited to 70% of the card limit and costs 3.15% or AED 105, whichever is higher.
  • The Murabaha contract runs for 15 years (180 months) and the monthly instalment is contractually due whether or not the card cover is used — it is only cancelled out by the Special Deposit Account profit plus a rebate that ruya grants 'at its sole discretion'.
  • A digital security cheque for 120% of the approved amount is signed at the approval stage.
  • You must be an existing ruya account holder to apply.
