What makes this card Islamic

The bank does not name the contract

We could not find CBD Al Islami stating which Shariah contract this card is built on. That is not the same as saying the card is non-compliant, but it does mean you cannot check the reasoning for yourself. Ask the bank which structure it uses, and for its Shariah board’s approval, before you apply.

Approved by Internal Sharia Supervision Committee (ISSC), under the supervision of Central Bank of the UAE.

What it costs

Every figure below comes from CBD Al Islami’s own published documents. Where the bank does not publish a number we say so rather than estimate it.

  • Up to 10% cashback on bills, e.g. telecom bills, utility bills and government service payments
  • Up to 10% cashback on education, e.g. schools, colleges and universities in the UAE and abroad
  • Up to 10% cashback on supermarket, e.g. grocery stores
  • Up to 10% cashback on transportation, e.g. fuel

The cap is the part that matters

Each of the four categories is capped at a maximum of AED 200 per month, so the theoretical maximum is AED 800 a month across all four.

  • Free multi-trip travel insurance, purchase protection and extended warranty
  • Visa Signature benefits

Before you apply

  • This card pays its headline 10% on bills, education, supermarket and fuel, which are precisely the categories most rivals in this dataset exclude or cut to a fraction of a percent. The trade-off is the AED 200 monthly cap per category.
  • The annual fee is only stated as free for the first year; the ongoing fee was not published on the page read.
  • Maximum age 63 is lower than most competitors.
