What makes this card Islamic

Riyad Bank builds this card on a Tawarruq contract. The bank sells you a commodity on credit at a marked-up price, you sell that commodity to somebody else for cash, and the cash becomes your spending limit.

Riyad Bank's own Islamic card terms set out the contract in their Arabic version. If you do not clear your balance in full by the due date, commodities are bought on murabaha and sold for cash to settle what you owe, at a profit margin for one month. Buying on murabaha in order to sell for cash is a tawarruq. The bank calls it murabaha, and the English version of the same terms leaves this sentence out. The arrangement rests on the bank's Shariah Committee resolution for its Islamic credit card, signed 16 July 2007.

Approved by Riyad Bank Shari'a Committee (independent), under the supervision of Saudi Central Bank (SAMA).

What it costs

Every figure below comes from Riyad Bank’s own published documents. Where the bank does not publish a number we say so rather than estimate it.

Annual fee
Not publishedNo fee table is published on this page. Every Riyad Bank primary-card fee table reviewed states "Annual Membership Fee (Supplementary Credit Card): Free", except the Dream card which charges SAR 75 - so the supplementary fee depends on the primary card, not on this product page.
Profit rate
Not publishedNo profit rate is published on this page; the supplementary card follows the primary card's pricing.
Cash withdrawal
Not published
Late payment
Not published
Takaful cover
Credit Shield is listed as a feature; no rate is published on this page.

What you get back

Other benefits

  • Credit limit separate from the primary cardholder's limit
  • Available in conventional or Shari'a compliant types
  • Automatic enrolment into Hassad Rewards
  • Qasset installment programme
  • Credit Shield; 3D Secure; contactless payments below SAR 300

Before you apply

  • This page publishes no fees, no profit rate and no APR at all - pricing must be read off the primary card's fee table.
  • The bank states the product is "available in conventional or Shari'a compliant types", so a supplementary card is not automatically Islamic.

Can you get it?

Age
18 and over
Other conditions
Should be 18 years of age or older; should be compliant with Riyad Bank's and SIMAH's policies for issuance of credit cards. No minimum salary is published. The online application form asks for monthly salary and current monthly obligations and returns a calculated credit limit, so eligibility is assessed case by case.

What to have ready

  • Filled and signed paper application signed by both the primary and the additional cardholder
  • Copy of National ID for Saudi or Gulf citizens / resident Identity card for non-Saudi nationals (valid for at least 1 month) for both the primary and the supplementary cardholder

Where these figures come from

Last checked against Riyad Bank’s published documents on 2026-08-17. Banks change fees without notice, so treat the bank’s own document as the final word, not this page.

  • “Riyad Bank Supplementary Credit Cards are designed with a credit limit that is separate from the primary credit card holder's limit.”
  • “Available in conventional or Shari'a compliant types”
  • “Should be 18 years of age or older”
- Riyad Bank Islamic credit card terms and conditions (Arabic), clause (h) Due Date”

What we could not verify

Riyad Bank does not publish annual fee, supplementary card fee, monthly profit rate, annual profit rate, late payment fee, cash withdrawal fee, foreign currency markup, replacement card fee, over-limit fee, maximum age, minimum income, network, takaful cover, apr for this card, so we have left those blank rather than guess. If you need one of them, ask the bank directly and hold them to the answer in writing.
