Who HSBC Amanah (UK) are
An Islamic window: a Shariah-compliant division inside a conventional bank.
HISTORIC — WITHDRAWN. HSBC began offering Islamic finance in the UK under the Amanah brand in 2003, covering Shariah-compliant mortgages, current accounts, stockbroking and pension funds. HSBC withdrew from UK Islamic retail banking in 2012 following a strategic review, citing that Sharia mortgages were a small business line; it exited Islamic retail in the UK, UAE, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Singapore and Mauritius at the same time, retaining Amanah in Malaysia, Saudi Arabia and Indonesia. This is the single largest withdrawal in the history of UK Islamic retail banking and is central evidence for the scale/economics argument.
