What makes this card Islamic

Standard Chartered Saadiq builds this card on a Ujrah contract. The bank charges you a fixed fee for the service of giving you a card, rather than a charge that grows with the money you owe.

A pure Ujrah card and the clearest example of the structure found in this research. It carried NO profit rate at all — the fee schedule records 'N/A' against both retail and cash transactions — and instead levied a flat Monthly Maintenance Fee of AED 800. The customer paid a fixed service fee for the use of the card rather than a rate on an outstanding balance.

Approved by Internal Shariah Supervision Committee (ISSC), UAE, under the supervision of Central Bank of the UAE.

Before you apply

  • WITHDRAWN. https://www.sc.com/ae/credit-cards/saadiq-platinum-ujrah/ now 301-redirects to the general credit cards index (verified 2026-08-17); the card does not appear in Standard Chartered UAE's current range.
  • The AED 800 monthly maintenance fee amounted to AED 9,600 a year on top of a AED 750 annual fee — a very high fixed cost that was independent of whether the card was used.
  • Its AED 299 late payment fee sat above the AED 230 CBUAE cap (AED 241.50 with VAT), but the fee schedule carrying it is dated 2018 and predates the 2020 Consumer Protection Standards.

What we could not verify

Standard Chartered Saadiq does not publish monthly profit rate, annual profit rate, minimum income, minimum age, maximum age, documents required, takaful cover, reward headline, reward caps, best for, apply, product page, shariah certificate for this card, so we have left those blank rather than guess. If you need one of them, ask the bank directly and hold them to the answer in writing.
