What makes this card Islamic

Meethaq Islamic Banking builds this card on a Qard Hasan + Ujrah contract. The bank lends you the money and you pay back exactly what you borrowed, not a penny more.

Meethaq states the structure explicitly on the product page: the credit LIMIT is extended as Qardh al Hasan (interest-free loan), and the bank's income is a fixed Ujrah (service fee) charged monthly only when the full outstanding balance is not settled by the due date. No profit-based fee is charged on the balance.

Approved by Meethaq Shariah Supervisory Board, under the supervision of Central Bank of Oman (CBO).

What you get back

Other benefits

  • Up to 52-day profit-free credit period
  • Easy Payment Plan (EPP): pay for purchases over 12 months at participating merchants with no extras
  • Worldwide acceptance
  • Secure internet shopping with personal password / secure code and One-Time-Password (OTP)
  • Supplementary cards for family members over 18 (no monthly Ujrah on supplementary cards)
  • SMS alerts and monthly statements

Before you apply

  • The Ujrah waiver is discretionary — Meethaq's own wording is 'May be granted upon consistent settlement' and 'at the full discretion of the bank and is on a non-negotiable basis'. It is not a contractual right, unlike Bank Nizwa's monthly fee which is stated as simply not applicable when the balance is settled.
  • Fee waiver in the first month is explicitly NOT applicable.
  • Cash advances are capped at 50% of the credit limit and OMR 100 per transaction, plus OMR 2.5 per transaction.
  • Charge-slip/voucher copy fee is stated as OMR 2 on the card page but OMR 3 in the 2026 Tariff Booklet.
