What makes this card Islamic

RHB Islamic Bank builds this card on a Tawarruq contract. The bank sells you a commodity on credit at a marked-up price, you sell that commodity to somebody else for cash, and the cash becomes your spending limit.

PDS effective 18 December 2025 (ver 1.0) names Commodity Murabahah ("CM") via Tawarruq arrangement as the core contract, supported by Wakalah (customer appoints RHBIB as agent for the commodity trades), Ta'widh (late-payment compensation), Ibra' (rebate, including the rebate of the gap between the ceiling profit rate and the effective profit rate), Wa'ad (unilateral undertaking to purchase), Muqassah (set-off of the previous card balance on renewal) and Qard (any over-utilised amount above the approved credit limit is treated as an interest-free loan). MIGRATION: the immediately preceding PDS (effective 13 March 2025, ref FSHDE 018/2017_v17.0, captured by the Wayback Machine on 2025-09-02) named the Shariah concepts as Ujrah + Qard, not Tawarruq. RHB Islamic therefore migrated Ujrah+Qard -> Commodity Murabahah via Tawarruq with effect from 18 December 2025. No primary-source evidence was found that RHB Islamic ever used Bai' al-Inah for this card; the structure it replaced was Ujrah.

Approved by RHB Islamic Bank Shariah Committee, under the supervision of Bank Negara Malaysia.

  • Tier 3 (RM2,000.00-2,499.99): 2% on petrol, dining, utilities, grocery and online dining/grocery; 0.2% on other spend
  • Tier 4 (RM2,500 and above): 5% on petrol, dining, utilities and grocery; 10% on online dining/grocery; 0.2% on other spend

The cap is the part that matters

Other benefits

  • Smart Instalment at 0% profit for up to 36 months
  • Smart Pay recurring bill payment; Smart Move balance transfer; CashXcess cash withdrawal over up to 36 months

Before you apply

  • Card Service Tax of RM25.00 per year is PASSED ON to the cardholder for every principal AND every supplementary card, charged on activation and on each 12-month renewal.
  • The headline 15% p.a. profit rate is the best of three tiers. Miss more than two minimum payments in a rolling 12 months and you fall to 17% p.a.; worse conduct puts you on 18% p.a.
  • The contractual ceiling profit rate is 28% p.a. The lower effective rate is delivered by ibra' (rebate), which is the bank waiving part of its contractual right - it is not a contractual cap.
  • Fees and charges marked ** in the PDS are subject to 8% Service Tax under the Service Tax Act 2018.
  • Cash advances carry a fixed 18% p.a. profit from the disbursement date with no profit-free period, on top of the 5%/min RM15 cash advance fee.
  • The 5% and 10% headline rates only start at RM2,500 total monthly retail spend; below RM1,000 everything earns 0.2%.
  • Each boosted category is capped at RM10 cashback a month, so the realistic ceiling is about RM50 a month across the five categories.
  • RM70 annual fee from year two unless you spend at least RM10,000 in the year.
