What makes this card Islamic

Bank Islam Malaysia Berhad builds this card on a Tawarruq contract. The bank sells you a commodity on credit at a marked-up price, you sell that commodity to somebody else for cash, and the cash becomes your spending limit.

Bank Islam states the concept as Tawarruq: the customer buys a commodity from the Bank on Murabahah basis at the Bank's Sale Price (Bank acting as Purchase Agent), then the Bank as Sale Agent sells the commodity to a third-party commodity purchaser at cost price for cash, and the proceeds are credited for the customer's use. Ibra' (rebate) may be granted on part or all of the profit portion of the outstanding Bank's Sale Price on full settlement and cancellation. The Bank's fee schedule refers to 'profit/Ujrah rates' for retail transactions, but the named contract in both the PDS and the T&C is Tawarruq. No bai' al-inah wording appears in any current Bank Islam credit card document read; the phrase 'bai' al-'inah' on the product page occurs only inside a scholarly note comparing tawarruq with bai' al-'inah, not as the contract used.

Approved by Shariah Supervisory Council (SSC), under the supervision of Bank Negara Malaysia.

What it costs

Every figure below comes from Bank Islam Malaysia Berhad’s own published documents. Where the bank does not publish a number we say so rather than estimate it.

Profit rate
17.5% a yearCORRECTED 2026-09-21 (DQ-7): this card was the one outlier in the Bank Islam range, recording the website's 18% band-top instead of the dated PDS figure every other Bank Islam card in this corpus uses -- an internal inconsistency, not a second primary-source read. Tiered effective ('actual') annual profit rate on purchases per the Product Disclosure Sheet effective 31 December 2025: 13.5% (Tier 1, prompt payments for 12 consecutive months), 16.0% (Tier 2, 10 or 11 prompt payments in the last 12 months), 17.5% (Tier 3, 9 or fewer prompt payments in the last 12 months). Cash withdrawal and transfer to a Bank Islam account is 18.00% p.a. -- this card's own quotes[] already carried this PDS figure correctly; only the profit_rate_annual_pct field and its source pointer had drifted to the product page. profit_rate_annual_pct now records the highest PURCHASE tier (17.5%), matching every other Bank Islam card. CONFLICT, same as the rest of the range: the bank's own product page displays 'Profit Rate 15% to 18% per annum (9% per annum for customer under Education Sector)', which does not match the 13.5/16.0/17.5 tiering in the PDS. The dated PDS is treated as authoritative; the website figure is recorded as a watch-out. This is the only Bank Islam card with a published sector-specific concessionary rate (9% p.a., Education Sector) -- that figure is recorded verbatim but could not be corroborated in the PDS. No separate numeric ceiling profit rate is published; the ceiling sits in the Bank's Sale Price and is rebated via ibra'.source

Other benefits

  • Lifetime annual fee waiver
  • Travel Accident Personal Coverage up to RM1,000,000

  • 20-day finance charge-free period on retail transactions

Before you apply

  • Website product pages state 'Profit Rate 15% to 18% per annum', which conflicts with the 13.5% / 16.0% / 17.5% purchase tiering in the Product Disclosure Sheet and Fee & Charges schedule effective 31 December 2025. Verify with the bank before relying on either figure.
  • The RM25 per card per year government service tax is passed on to the cardholder, and applies to each card (principal and supplementary), not once per account.
  • The lowest 13.5% tier requires prompt payment for 12 consecutive months; 9 or fewer prompt payments in 12 months puts the cardholder on 17.5%.
  • Grace period of 20 days applies to retail transactions only - not to balance transfers or cash withdrawals.
  • Cash withdrawals and transfers to a Bank Islam account are charged 18.00% p.a. with no grace period, plus a cash withdrawal fee.
  • Age-capped at 35 at application - the only Bank Islam credit card-i with an upper age limit.
  • The 9% p.a. education-sector rate appears only on the product page and is not stated in the Product Disclosure Sheet effective 31 December 2025. Confirm eligibility and the rate with the bank.
