Bank Simpanan Nasional (BSN) builds this card on a Tawarruq contract. The bank sells you a commodity on credit at a marked-up price, you sell that commodity to somebody else for cash, and the cash becomes your spending limit.
BSN converted its whole Credit Card-i range from Ujrah to Tawarruq with effect from 26 July 2025. The current structure is Tawarruq executed through a Wakalah dual-agency mechanism: the customer appoints BSN as purchase agent to buy a commodity from BSN on Murabahah at the bank's sale price, then as sale agent to sell it to a supplier for cash at the bank's purchase price; the proceeds become the card facility limit, held under Dayn (debt obligation), with repayments restoring the limit as Wadi'ah (trust) and any unutilised limit netted off by Muqasah at renewal or settlement. The bank's purchase price equals the facility limit; the bank's sale price is that plus the profit amount computed at a CONTRACTED (ceiling) profit rate of 18% per annum over a five-year contract period. Bai' al-inah is not named anywhere in the November 2025 PDS, the cardmember agreement, or the conversion FAQ. BSN's own conversion FAQ confirms the previous structure was Ujrah, not bai' al-inah.
Approved by Shariah Committee of Bank Simpanan Nasional, under the supervision of Bank Negara Malaysia. BSN's own Al-Aiman Credit Card Product Disclosure Sheet (valid as of November 2025) instructs cardholders whose complaints are unresolved to contact Bank Negara Malaysia or BNMLINK, and to seek AKPK, the agency BNM established for credit counselling. BSN is a savings bank owned by the Government of Malaysia; the specific establishing statute (BSN Act) was not verified against a primary source in this session..
