What makes this card Islamic

AmBank Islamic builds this card on a Tawarruq contract. The bank sells you a commodity on credit at a marked-up price, you sell that commodity to somebody else for cash, and the cash becomes your spending limit.

PDS dated 1 July 2026: "The underlying Shariah principles for this Credit Card-i are Tawarruq, Murabahah, Wa'd and Wakalah." AmBank Islamic buys Shariah-compliant commodities (the PDS names crude palm oil) from commodity sellers, sells them to the cardholder on Murabahah at the Bank's Selling Price on a deferred basis, then as the cardholder's agent sells them to third-party purchasers at cost on a spot basis; the proceeds constitute the credit limit. Unutilised credit limit is held under Wadiah (safe custody) and any bank use of it is treated as an incidental Qard (Cardholder Agreement, December 2025, clause 1.3). MIGRATION: AmBank Islamic converted the underlying Shariah principle of ALL its credit cards-i from Ujrah to Tawarruq with effect from Wednesday, 17 December 2025, per its own notice dated 17 November 2025. The superseded PDS (Wayback capture 2025-10-17) reads "The underlying Shariah principle for this Credit Card-i is Ujrah and Shariah contract of Qard." No primary-source evidence was found that these cards used Bai' al-Inah immediately before the change; the structure replaced was Ujrah + Qard. (Secondary literature records AmBank's original 1990s/2000s Al-Taslif Card as a Bai' al-Inah product, but no AmBank primary source confirming that was located.)

Approved by AmBank Islamic Shariah Committee, under the supervision of Bank Negara Malaysia.

What you get back

  • Earn 1 AmBonus Point for every RM1 you spend

Other benefits

  • Free supplementary cards (limited), per AmBank's card listing description

Before you apply

  • Card Service Tax of RM25 per card per year is PASSED ON to the cardholder, for the principal card and for every supplementary card.
  • The headline 15% p.a. profit rate is the best of three tiers; 10-11 prompt payments in 12 months puts you on 17% p.a. and a worse record on 18% p.a.
  • AmBank Islamic publishes NO ceiling profit rate. The Selling Price is set by the formula Commodities Cost x Profit Rate x Period and the exact profit is only disclosed in the Approval Letter, so the contractual maximum is not visible before you apply.
  • Ibra' is described only as a rebate on the profit attributable to the UNUTILISED credit limit, and 'may' be granted on settlement or termination - it is discretionary, not a stated formula.
  • Cash advances carry a flat RM16 fee plus 8% SST regardless of size, plus 18% p.a. profit from day one - proportionally punitive on small withdrawals.
  • Credit limit is approximately 3x monthly income, or up to 2x if annual income is RM36,000 or less (Bank Negara Malaysia rule).
  • Closed to new applications - AmBank's own credit card listing states "This card is no longer available for new applications." Existing cardholders were included in the 17 December 2025 Ujrah-to-Tawarruq conversion.
